Day 5: It is He who saves you from every distress

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Aya of the Day

Say, “It is Allah who saves you from it and from every distress; then you [still] associate others with Him.” [Surat al-An’aam, 6:64]
SubhanAllah. This almost made me cry. Allah saves us from EVERY distress, yet we are still ungrateful. Sometimes we see the world as bleak, sometimes we lose hope in ourselves, or we lose hope in others and we see the world in a distorted way- our problems are seen as the biggest obstacle in our way. But Allah tells us it is He that can save us from every distress, so why do we lose hope? Why do we not see things the way they really are- that Allah is greater than all of this, and that He will save us inshAllah? So next time we feel down, distressed or in anguish, remember the One that can help you- Allah.
Lesson of the Day: Love for the akhira
Do you truly love your family and friends? Then give them something that is permanent. Oftentimes our gatherings with those close to us are about fun and laughter- which is good. But take a few seconds in every gathering or conversation to remember Allah, even if it is just say “alhamdulilah” or to reflect over His magnificent creation. If most of your conversations are blessed with the remembrance of Allah, something amazing happens. Allah tells us in a beautiful hadith qudsi:
“…if he remembers Me in his heart, I remember him in My `heart’; if he remembers Me in a gathering, I remember him in a gathering far better than that gathering…” [Bukhari]
Not only will Allah mention your gathering by name, but it will help to keep your heart soft and tranquil inshAllah. Allah tells us in the Qur’an:
“Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.” (Qur’an, 13:28)
Furthermore, the Prophet (pbuh) reminds us:
“Do not talk too much without remembering and mentioning Allah, for too much talk without mentioning Allah hardens the heart, and the person farthest from Allah is the one with a hard heart.” [Tirmidhi]
A tranquil heart, closeness to Allah, barakah in our relationships, being counted as those who remember Allah, rewards in the akhira and being mentioned by Allah to the Angels- what more could we ask for?
And if you already do that, then take it a step further. Get together with your closest friends and/or family, collect some money and build a well somewhere that needs it. Try to do this once a year or whatever your budget allows you. Imagine the barakah that Allah will put in such circles! This can be done with volunteering or anything that puts knowledge into practice and benefits other people.
May Allah aid us to love truly for His sake and benefit from that love. Ameen.
