بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
He said, “O Adam, inform them of their names.” And when he had informed them of their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed. And [mention] when We said to the angels, “Prostrate before Adam”; so they prostrated, except for Iblees. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers. [Qur’an, 2:30-33]
No matter how bad things are, there is always good in the world.
When Allah tells the Angels that He is going to create human beings, the Angels are astonished. Because of our free will, we are able to do much harm and some of us choose to do so. Allah then teaches Adam “the names”. What are these names?
According to the tafseer, it is the names of the prophets and the righteous people. It is an answer to the question of the Angels, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?” And Allah says “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.”
He knew that there would be people – upright, noble people – who would come who would do good. We might ask the same question as the Angels when we see all the bloodshed around the world, but Allah reminds us: there is good.
That good could be you.
May Allah make us of them.
